Role Overview

M2X Energy is seeking an experienced Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's corporate EHS management systems.

M2X develops and operates modular technology that converts landfill gas and other methane-rich feedstocks into methanol. As the company expands its operations across multiple states, the EHS Director will establish scalable safety and environmental programs supporting site development, equipment installation, commissioning, chemical processing, methanol storage, and distribution.

The successful candidate will possess a strong background in chemical processing, industrial safety, environmental permitting, process safety management, and regulatory compliance.

This position requires a hands-on leader capable of establishing corporate standards while maintaining practical oversight of geographically dispersed operations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Corporate EHS Leadership & Management Systems
    • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive corporate EHS management system.
    • Establish standardized EHS policies, procedures, operating requirements, and performance metrics.
    • Lead corporate EHS strategy and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Establish site-level accountability for regulatory compliance and safe operations.
    • Develop and maintain corporate EHS risk registers and corrective action programs.
    • Support management reviews, internal audits, and executive-level EHS reporting.
    • Integrate EHS processes with operations, engineering, maintenance, and site development.
  2. Regulatory Compliance & Environmental Management
    • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, DOT, state, and local regulatory requirements.
    • Oversee environmental permits and compliance obligations associated with air emissions, stormwater, wastewater, and chemical storage.
    • Support permitting and regulatory coordination for new facility installations and site modifications.
    • Manage hazardous waste identification, generator classifications, accumulation requirements, and disposal programs.
    • Oversee spill prevention, control, and countermeasure (SPCC) programs, where applicable.
    • Establish compliance inspection schedules and regulatory reporting processes.
    • Serve as the primary corporate EHS liaison with regulatory agencies and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
  3. Process Safety & Chemical Management
    • Establish risk-based process safety programs for methane processing, methanol production, and associated equipment.
    • Lead or facilitate process hazard analyses (PHA), HAZOP studies, and operational risk assessments.
    • Develop and oversee Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) requirements.
    • Ensure appropriate safety controls for flammable liquids, combustible gases, toxic gases, and pressure systems.
    • Support the design, installation, and testing of gas detection, fire detection, emergency shutdown, and fire protection systems.
    • Establish standards for methanol storage, handling, containment, and transfer operations.
    • Oversee chemical hazard communication, SDS management, and chemical inventories.
    • Support applicable OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) applicability assessments and compliance.
  4. Site Development, Deployment & Commissioning
    • Integrate EHS requirements into site selection, engineering reviews, and facility layout development.
    • Participate in equipment design reviews and installation risk assessments.
    • Establish standardized EHS requirements for contractor mobilization, installation, and commissioning.
    • Lead EHS readiness assessments prior to startup and commercial operation.
    • Verify emergency response provisions, personnel training, and critical safeguards prior to equipment startup.
    • Support site acceptance testing, commissioning activities, and operational handover.
    • Develop repeatable EHS deployment standards to support rapid multi-site expansion.
  5. Occupational Health & Industrial Safety
    • Oversee implementation of OSHA-compliant occupational safety programs.
    • Establish corporate requirements for lockout/tagout, electrical safety, confined spaces, hot work, and working at heights.
    • Develop PPE standards appropriate for chemical processing and field operations.
    • Oversee industrial hygiene assessments and occupational exposure monitoring.
    • Manage portable and fixed gas detection requirements, including testing, calibration, and response protocols.
    • Lead injury prevention initiatives, incident investigations, and corrective action tracking.
    • Oversee contractor safety management and safe work permitting systems.
  6. Emergency Preparedness & Response
    • Develop site-specific emergency response plans addressing fires, chemical releases, gas leaks, medical emergencies, and equipment failures.
    • Establish emergency shutdown and evacuation protocols in coordination with engineering and operations.
    • Coordinate emergency planning with local fire departments, emergency responders, and regulatory authorities.
    • Conduct emergency response drills and evaluate response readiness.
    • Manage relationships with environmental spill response and remediation contractors.
    • Support incident command and response during significant EHS events.
  7. Training & EHS Software Systems
    • Establish a corporate EHS training matrix based on job responsibilities and regulatory requirements.
    • Implement and oversee an EHS learning management system (LMS).
    • Develop training requirements for process operators, maintenance technicians, and contractors.
    • Maintain training records, certifications, and qualification tracking.
    • Implement EHS software solutions for incident management, inspections, chemical management, and corrective actions.
    • Coordinate EHS data and work processes with applicable CMMS and operational management platforms.
  8. Auditing, Incident Investigation & Performance Improvement
    • Develop and execute corporate EHS inspection and audit programs.
    • Investigate significant incidents, near misses, and high-potential events.
    • Perform root cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are implemented and verified.
    • Monitor leading and lagging EHS performance indicators.
