About Abacum

Abacum is the leading Business Planning solution for finance teams to drive performance. By automating reporting, enabling collaboration, and simplifying planning and forecasting, we help finance teams shift from number crunching to driving strategic decisions.

Founded in 2020 by two former CFOs, we’ve grown into a global team of 100+ people across 30+ nationalities. Headquartered in New York, we have offices in Toronto and Barcelona. We’re trusted by industry leaders such as Dish Networks, Strava, BetterUp, Kajabi, JG Wentworth, Abridge, Cortex, and hundreds more.

We have raised over $100m, closing in June 2025 our $60M Series B, led by Scale Venture Partners, with the strong participation of Cathay Innovation, Y Combinator, Atomico, Creandum, and angel operators from Adyen, Zapier, and Twitch.

Our mission is ambitious and we can’t do it alone - join Abacum as we build the future of Business Planning!

About the role

We are looking for a People Operations Generalist to join our People team and support our growing North American organization.

This is a hands-on People Operations role with ownership across the US and Canada, with a strong focus on payroll, employee lifecycle management, compliance, benefits, office management, and operational execution.

You will manage key People processes from the moment an employee joins through onboarding, payroll, employee changes, leaves and off-boarding, ensuring every process is accurate, compliant and well documented.

A key part of this role is managing payroll operations across both the US and Canada, so we are looking for someone who already understands the operational requirements of working across both countries and can confidently partner with payroll providers, Finance and external advisors.

You will work closely with the Global People Manager, Finance, external payroll providers and managers across the company.

Note that this is a hybrid role in our beautiful Midtown office Tuesday-Thursday.

What you'll do

Employee lifecycle

Own People Operations across the full employee lifecycle for employees in the US and Canada, including onboarding, employee changes, leaves, documentation and off-boarding.

Ensure employee records and documentation remain accurate and consistent across systems.

US & Canada payroll

Own the operational preparation and review of payroll across both the United States and Canada.

Manage payroll inputs including new hires, terminations, salary changes, variable compensation, benefits and other employee changes.

Partner with payroll providers and Finance to ensure every payroll cycle is accurate, compliant and completed on time.

Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies and continuously improve payroll processes.

People Operations & compliance

Act as an operational point of reference for employees and managers across the US and Canada on payroll, benefits, PTO, leaves, employee documentation and People processes.

Maintain awareness of relevant employment requirements across both countries and coordinate with external advisors when specialist guidance is needed.

Translate regulatory requirements into practical and scalable internal processes.

You will be the go-to representative for the People team in the NYC office and will need to provide on the ground support for the CEO and Chief of Staff.

Onboarding & off-boarding

Coordinate onboarding requirements, employment documentation and operational setup for new hires.

Manage voluntary and involuntary employee exits, including payroll, benefits, documentation and system updates.

Ensure every transition is handled accurately, consistently and with the appropriate level of care and compliance.

HR systems, data & documentation

Maintain accurate employee data across our HR systems and internal tools.

Own recurring People Operations workflows and documentation.

Build and maintain clear SOPs and scalable processes.

Identify opportunities to simplify or automate manual processes.

Benefits & employee support

Support the administration of employee benefits across the US and Canada.

Act as a trusted point of contact for employees on People Operations questions.

Provide clear and practical guidance while maintaining confidentiality, consistency and professional judgement.

About you

You are a hands-on People Operations professional who enjoys making complex operational processes work smoothly.

You are highly organized, detail-oriented and comfortable working across different employment frameworks, providers and jurisdictions.

You understand the operational differences between the US and Canada and are confident managing payroll and employee lifecycle processes across both countries.

You are comfortable taking ownership independently while working closely with the broader People team.

What we're looking for

Why this role

You will join a lean People team at a stage where our North American presence is growing quickly.

You will have real ownership over the operational foundations behind how we onboard, pay, support and off-board employees across the US and Canada, while helping us build processes that can scale with the company.
