Job Summary:
The Vice President of Trading, Operations & Billing is a leadership role responsible for the oversight, evolution, and scalability of Mercer Advisors’ investment operations platform. This includes end-to-end accountability for trading execution, operations, advisory fee billing, and supporting infrastructure across a national RIA managing over $100 billion in client assets.
The role leads a multi-functional team of 60+ professionals spanning Trading, Operations, and Billing. The role has a meaningful and direct impact on the client and advisor experience, by ensuring the teams closest to the clients (our service and wealth management teams) have the operational accuracy, responsiveness, consistency and partnership needed to deliver our Mercer Advisors’ promises.
This role plays a critical part in bringing Mercer Advisors’ institutional-grade investment platform and fiduciary promise to life by ensuring operational excellence, consistency, and risk management across all client portfolios, while creating a high-quality experience for advisors, client service teams, and internal partners who rely on Investment Platform Operations every day.
As a key leader within the Investment organization, the VP will drive a culture of continuous improvement, process redesign, and operational scalability, while building and mentoring next-generation leaders across Trading, Operations, and Billing functions.
Essential Job Functions for this role include:
1. Platform Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the strategic direction and execution of Trading, Operations and Billing functions to support firm growth, scale, and client experience
- Evolve the operating model to align with Mercer Advisors’ integrated family office approach, ensuring seamless coordination across advisory, portfolio management, and service teams
- Partner with CIO, Investment Committee, and Technology leadership to continuously enhance the investment platform
2. Culture of Continuous Improvement
- Establish and embed a continuous improvement mindset across all functions, driving measurable gains in efficiency, scalability, and quality
- Lead process redesign initiatives to simplify workflows, eliminate redundancies, and improve speed, accuracy and ease of doing business for clients and client-facing teams.
- Enhance operational KPIs and dashboards to track performance, risk, throughput, service quality, and client and team experience indicators.
- Use operational data, feedback from advisors and service teams, and issue trends to identify opportunities to continuously improve client outcomes and team experience.
- Attract, hire, and develop team members with a builder's mindset: people who actively look for ways to automate and simplify their own work, and who see that as a path to growth into higher-value, more strategic responsibilities.
3. Fiduciary Oversight & Risk Management
- Ensure all operational processes and trading activities meet the firm’s fiduciary standard and regulatory obligations
- Strengthen governance frameworks, controls, and audit readiness across investment operations, account operations, trading, and billing
- Partner closely with Compliance and Risk to ensure consistency, documentation, and adherence to policies
4. Trading & Execution Excellence
- Oversee best execution practices, trading strategy implementation, and system optimization
- Ensure scalability and precision across portfolio implementation, rebalancing, and trading workflows
- Act as business owner to evaluate and enhance trading technologies, automation, and vendor partnerships
5. Operations & Billing Leadership
- Lead operational functions including operations, portfolio accounting, reconciliation, performance reporting, and client billing
- Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and consistency across all client accounts and reporting outputs
- Drive modernization of billing processes, controls, and transparency, increasing collection accuracy and timeliness
- Ensure appropriate processes are in place to support custodial coordination including various custodial alerts.
6. Talent Development & Team Leadership
- Build, mentor, and develop next-generation leaders across Trading, Operations, and Billing
- Establish clear career paths, succession plans, and leadership development programs for Trading, Operations and Billing teams
- Foster a high-performance culture grounded in accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning
7. Client-Facing Team Partnership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as a trusted partner to advisor, client service, Portfolio Consulting, Technology, Portfolio Management Group, Compliance, Partner Success, Enablement, and Finance teams to ensure operational support is aligned with client and business needs.
- Strengthen the partnership model between Investment Platform Operations and client-facing teams, ensuring issues are triaged clearly, escalations are handled with urgency, and communication is timely, accurate and solution oriented.
- Translate operational complexity into clear guidance, reliable processes, and effective support so client-facing teams can deliver consistent, high-quality client experiences.
- Act as senior escalation point for complex operational or client-impacting issues, balancing responsiveness, risk management, and long-term process improvement.
- Represent Investment Platform Operations in firm-wide initiatives, integrations, and strategic projects with a focus on improving client outcomes, advisor efficiency and team experience.

By leading the teams responsible for the operational founding behind trading, account operation, investment operations and billing, the VP enables advisors and client facing teams to serve clients with greater confidence, consistency and responsiveness.
The VP will directly influence how effectively the firm translates its investment philosophy and fiduciary commitment into operational excellence, enabling advisors and clients to fully realize the value of Mercer Advisors’ integrated platform.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in operations, trading, or wealth/investment management platforms
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing large, multi-functional teams
- Deep understanding of operations, trading systems, and billing processes within an RIA or institutional platform
- Strong knowledge of fiduciary standards, compliance, and operational risk frameworks
- Proven track record driving process transformation, automation, and operational scale. Six Sigma green or yellow belt certifications, Kaizen, or other process improvement methodologies preferred
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
Preferred:
- Series 65 (or ability to obtain)
- CFA, CAIA, or MBA
Work Schedule:
This professional role requires availability during standard business hours of Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM. At times, the role may have early or late hours to meet business tasks and deadlines for external and internal client needs.
All roles classified as a non-exempt are required to record working time into the timekeeping system daily at the start and end of each workday plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch period.
Working Conditions:
This position may be in a professional office environment or a dedicated home office workspace which is free of interruptions. Whether position is in a dedicated office space or home office workspace, basic technology needs will be provided to satisfy position requirements. Routinely sitting and standing for periods of time. No heavy lifting over 10 lbs.

The annualized compensation range for this role is based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skillset, and geographic location where work is performed. The cash compensation range includes both base salary and an annual bonus. The total compensation package may include additional cash bonus amounts and other incentive compensation.
