Position Overview: The Innovation Industries department at NYCEDC oversees real estate and capital projects, financial incentive utilization, government wayfinding and regulatory reform, workforce initiatives, and diverse entrepreneurship programs to ensure New York City remains a global leader in innovation, and that we provide pathways of opportunity for all New Yorkers in our tech, green economy, climate tech, and creative industries.
The Green Economy team at NYCEDC utilizes these levers to deploy clean energy technologies at scale, accelerate the commercialization of emerging climate technologies, advance construction innovation and the sustainable bioeconomy, and electrify buildings citywide, with a focus on economic justice.
As a member of the Green Economy Team, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) will support established and emerging projects with research and ideation, strategy development, procurement, launch, ongoing management, and closeout. AVPs coordinate cross-functional project teams, communicating with multiple internal and external stakeholders, both public and private to advance organizational and Green Economy Team goals. The AVP will work in a matrixed environment working on projects that span industries such as battery energy storage, solar, building electrification, climate tech, and sustainable transportation, and horizontal topic areas such as workforce and business development in addition to managing and coaching Senior Project managers and project managers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- In partnership with the Vice President of Green Economy Industry Development, develop and execute strategies, programs, and initiatives that grow green economy industries and advance sustainable infrastructure development in alignment with departmental economic justice goals
- Independently manage multiple projects and programs, ensuring accurate tracking project milestones, driving program excellence through our operators and internal staff, and reporting on metrics, impact, and financial performance.
- Lead project estimating, budgeting, and forecasting, ensuring accurate planning and accountability.
- Lead procurement drafting, outreach, due diligence, respondent selection, contracting and underwriting documentation, and supervision of implementation.
- Lead research, data gathering and analysis, financial modeling, and expert interviews, to report on industry trends and needs, regulatory challenges, policies, industry dynamics, and news.
- Communicate across internal and external stakeholders across various levels of seniority to achieve portfolio and team objectives, which includes appropriately identifying project risks and drafting/presenting presentations and memoranda for key stakeholders.
- Lead engagement of private, public, and nonprofit entities such as industry and academic partners, workforce development organizations, business development entities, and regulatory and public agencies to advance Green Economy priorities and business attraction/expansion goals.
- Execute events such as roundtables and advisory board meetings, preparing EDC speakers with background research and talking points.
- Coach and develop junior staff through clear goal setting, feedback, and professional development, to support strong performance and high-quality deliverables.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Urban Planning or a related field strongly preferred
- At least 5 years of professional experience in a relevant field such as renewable energy infrastructure development, climate tech, or management consulting.
- Strong experience in industry research, corporate strategy development, program and project management, budgeting and financial management, developing impact metrics with keen attention to detail.
- Experience in clean energy deployment, sustainability, construction innovation, or related climate-focused industries.
- Demonstrated written, verbal, and presentation skills, including experience developing presentations, memoranda, and other executive-facing materials.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and develop solutions to complex challenges
- Experience managing, coaching, and developing staff and teams preferred.
- Must obtain/maintain New York City residency within 180 days of hire
