Position Summary:
The Research Associate will support Research and Development activities in the field of molecular biology, with a focus on the identification and verification of DNA methylation-based biomarkers and the development, optimization, and verification of epigenetic qPCR assays and ddPCR-based assays. The position involves the execution of laboratory experiments, processing of clinical study samples, analysis and documentation of experimental data, and support of laboratory quality and operational activities in a regulated environment.
Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to:
- Perform laboratory activities in accordance with approved SOPs, work instructions, and experimental protocols with appropriate guidance.
- Conduct laboratory experiments to support the identification and verification of DNA methylation-based biomarkers.
- Support the development, optimization, verification, and transfer of (epigenetic) qPCR- and ddPCR-based assays.
- Perform experimental quality control activities and support the qualification and release of plasmid standards and other critical reagents.
- Receive, prepare, process, and document clinical trial samples in accordance with defined procedures and study requirements.
- Perform epigenetic immune monitoring analyses, including bisulfite conversion and purification of DNA samples, qPCR analysis, data evaluation, and quality control.
- Analyze, interpret, document, and communicate experimental results to project scientists and team members.
- Identify technical issues, investigate deviations, and support troubleshooting and root cause analysis activities.
- Prepare reagents, controls, and laboratory materials required for routine and development activities.
- Operate and maintain laboratory automation and liquid handling systems.
- Perform routine equipment checks, maintenance, calibration support, and associated documentation activities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and traceable laboratory records in accordance with applicable quality requirements.
- Support the preparation, review, and revision of SOPs, work instructions, protocols, reports, and other controlled documents.
- Participate in method evaluations, feasibility studies, and implementation of new laboratory technologies.
- Collaborate with scientists, project managers, and laboratory personnel to meet project timelines and milestones.
- Support laboratory organization, inventory management, ordering of consumables, and monitoring of laboratory supplies.
- Perform all activities in accordance with applicable health, safety, quality, and data integrity requirements.
- Contribute to inspection and audit readiness activities.
Qualifications:
Minimum Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Practical experience with molecular biology laboratory techniques.
- Experience working with scientific procedures, protocols, and laboratory documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
- German language skills at a minimum B1 level.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.

Preferred:
- Experience with DNA methylation analysis and bisulfite conversion methods.
- Experience with qPCR and/or ddPCR technologies.
- Experience processing and handling clinical trial samples.
- Experience with assay development, optimization, verification, or validation.
- Experience operating automated liquid handling systems.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Familiarity with GraphPad Prism or other scientific data analysis software.
- Experience working in a regulated or quality-controlled laboratory environment (e.g., GCP, GLP, ISO, CAP, CLIA, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of cell biology and immunology concepts.
- Experience supporting scientific reports, technical documentation, or publications.
